A dental bridge is normally necessary if you are missing one of your natural teeth. The bridge itself will be attached to the two surrounding teeth. Once attached, the middle portion of the bridge, known as the pontic, will act as a false tooth to replace what’s missing. Bridges help to cosmetically enhance your smile while preventing tooth shifting and issues with biting and chewing.

The reason you might need a dental bridge is because you are missing a tooth. Rather than wear a partial denture or simply make do with the gap in your smile, a bridge can enhance the way that you look. Bridges can be functional as well, since they help to improve the way that you eat, chew and bite into your foods. Bridges can easily last for a few decades without any signs of wear.
Who is a candidate for Dental Bridges?
To determine if you might need a dental bridge, we will have you come in for a consultation. The exam and consultation gives us an idea of whether or not you’d benefit from a bridge. If you are missing too many of your natural teeth, you may need to have implants placed before a bridge is put over them. If you aren’t a good candidate for dental implants, a dental bridge is a viable alternative.
What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?
We first file down the two surrounding teeth that will hold onto the bridge itself. Impressions are then taken and used to make the actual bridge. Your second visit into our office involves placing the bridge permanently and adjusting its bite. You will then be able to leave the office feeling confident in your new smile. Bridges don’t typically require any special care or treatment. It’s not uncommon for a bridge to last for decades before we may suggest that it be replaced with a new restoration.
